Who is the borrower ?

Students are advised to use a co-signer on their student loans. A person having strong ties to the student. Parents, Relative etc. It is on the financial status of the co-signer and his repayment capability a loan may be granted. For security assurance Banks may request for a property pledge, but with all the assets to pledge if the student and the co-signer do not posses repayment capability, the loan will be denied. Having no-cosigner or a co-signer with bad credit (CRIB)is the top reason applications are also denied. It is very important that the student do a feasibility study and plan his budget before he forward his loan application.

Parents are the first preference to co-sign for their student's loan, if the student does not have established credit facility. If Parents are not eligible due to lack of repayment capability a close relative or a sponsor acceptable to the Bank may co-sign for the student’s loan application

Loan Disbursement

Student loans are considered on the type of course student enrolls and the repayment capability of co-signer. Sri Lanka’s Central Bank directives stipulate that a loan can be granted in proportion of 50% of the income of the borrower. E. g. An Rs. 100,000/= income earner can borrow an amount, the installment of which should fall below Rs. 50,000/= and it also fixes the minimum income at Rs.30,000 per month.

American Express Credit Card offers ANC student a very comprehensive Extended Settlement Plan. The total cost of the annual Tuition can be paid with the American Express Card and repay in Extended Settlement Plan within 12 months. A handling fee of 9% will be charged for the service.
