The primary purpose of academic counselling is to assist students in the development of educational plans which are realistic and compatible with their life goals. The ultimate responsibility for making decisions about educational plans and life goals rests with the student. The academic counsellor can assist by helping to identify and assess alternatives and the consequences of decisions, and to provide interpretations to regulations applying to the specific study program. Students are encouraged to seek academic advice throughout their program. Academic counselling is available to all students throughout their academic career at ANC.

Counselling Services provide a free and confidential service to the students at ANC. We seek to provide students with the support and assistance they require to function effectively as learners, as members of the ANC community, and as individuals. Our Counselling Services have been developed to assist students to strive towards achievement of their highest potential.

Primarily academic counselling is available to students who experience difficulties with their studies. Counselling will assist students to identify their areas of difficulty and develop strategies to improve their performance. Further advice is available to students who need assistance in developing their educational and career plan.

Academic advising of students at ANC started formerly in fall 2005. A data analysis of the previous three semesters identified the need to strengthen English, Mathematics and Science skills of students at ANC.

Most importantly communication is improved between Academic Administrative Office, teaching faculty, Students Affairs Office and the students and their parents / guardians, thereby improving the academic well being of ANC students. This service needs to develop to be the trouble-shooting arm of Academic Administrative Office for smooth functioning of the academic program. In order to achieve the above objectives even before the beginning of semester the process starts. Since academic counselling is an ongoing service running throughout the program students on academic probation are identified and letters send out and appointments for parents are made.

At the beginning of the semester the pre - university development level classes and Math/ Language Tutoring Labs are arranged. Specifically students are informed about English standards at ANC. Periodic monitoring and evaluation takes place of the academic counselling process to yield the maximum benefit to the student. At ANC effort is made to institutionalize academic counselling so that our students have an advantage irrespective of academic background. Every student at ANC can obtain this service free of charge.
